What lessons can be learned from the success of The Shack that might help us all moving forward? A Word About the Book- The Shack It’s that good!” To be honest, the trailer for the movie was greatly appealing and demonstrated a high quality that will likely be very successful. That’s to be expected when you have people like Eugene Peterson making statements such as, “This book has the potential to do for our generation what John Bunyan’s “Pilgrim’s Progress” did for his. The movie itself is set to be released in 2017, but the hype and anticipation has already started to build. Recently the trailer for the movie based on Young’s book was released. The book originally written as a Christmas gift for a family has sold over 20-million copies and become one of the top 70 books in the history of printed books. It ascended to the top of the best-selling lists (including the New York Times and Amazon), and like many successful books often do, it has now morphed into a movie. In 2008, William Paul Young wrote a book titled The Shack that was instantly a best-seller. 5/10/2023 0 Comments Babar and father christmas 1940Due to the role she played in the concept of the Babar story, many sources continue to refer to her as its creator. It was originally planned that the book's title page would describe the story as told by Jean and Cecile de Brunhoff but she had her name removed. The boys took a liking to the story of the little elephant who left the jungle for a city resembling Paris so much that they took it to their father and asked him if he could illustrate it, and he turned it into a picture book, with text. The Babar books began as a bedtime story that his wife Cecile invented for their two sons, when they were four and five years old, respectively. He then decided to become a professional artist and studied painting at the Academie de la Grande Chaumiere in Paris. During the latter part of World War I he joined the French Army and served on the front lines when war was almost over. He attended Protestant schools, including the prestigious Ecole Alsacienne. Born the youngest of four children, his father was a publisher. He is best remembered for creating the Babar the Elephant books, about an orphaned baby elephant, that was first appeared in 1931 and became an instant success. We have some prejudices here that leak out when anyone discusses the murder victim. You get to see an England that is still unsure of what direction it will go. I do like books that take place after World War II. It reminds me of some of Agatha Christie works, especially with a main character (Adam Dalgliesh) rounding up all of the suspects and explaining everything and revealing the murderer. James does a great job with all of the characters that are introduced, but the book starts off very slowly. So I put it away and forget about reading this series until now. I ended up reading a short story starring this character last year or the year before for Festive Tasks and then I ended up trying to start a stand alone with him and didn’t realize it wasn’t the first book. Well this series definitely intrigues me. 5/10/2023 0 Comments Lucy lennox hostile takeoverHostile Takeover is a full-length, standalone novel. The methods of discipline used, and the reinforcement of feelings of worthlessness and shame, would be classified as severe abuse and neglect nowadays. These letters covered up the actual experiences of Dorothy who, having initially been placed with a foster mother who gave her basic physical care but no psychological or emotional support, at age five was returned to the Foundling Hospital without any forewarning of what was to come. Once her daughter was admitted to the London facility, the only information given to Lena was that her “little girl was doing well”. One such baby girl was born to Lena West from Shropshire. It was the accepted thinking that a child born in these circumstances was fit only for a menial role in life. Many wealthy and famous people were involved in supporting it down the centuries, including Dickens, Gainsborough, and Handel. In 1739 Thomas Coram founded the childcare institution commonly known as The Foundling Hospital. The Secret Life of Dorothy Soames: A Foundling’s Storyīefore it became acceptable to have a child outside of marriage, the legitimacy of their son or daughter brought shame both to the mother and her offspring. 5/9/2023 0 Comments Eternals book neil gaimanhave boldly and lovingly reinvigorated the Eternals, crafting a fresh and crackling yarn full of mystery, suspense and majestic power! It’s interesting to see how he uses a lifetime of training in precision, tidiness, and observation to ensure that the ravens have good care and a stable routine, and how he uses other military training to manage, if not outwit, foxes, tourists, and the ravens themselves who love chaos and order in equal measure. Skaife also talks about his military career and how this led to him becoming a Yeoman Warder. Skaife covers the origin of the legends about the ravens, some basics about the Tower, and his day-to-day schedule, as well as how in his role as Ravenmaster he changed some previous practices in hopes of keeping the birds as wild as possible. The bibliography lists an abundance of books about ravens and about British history, should the book lead you to want to read more. It’s science and history-lite, meaning there’s plenty here to inform and entertain but not a lot of intense detail. Skaife’s narration is casual and conversational. It’s a serious responsibility, since legend states that if the ravens abandon the Tower, then the kingdom will fall. This memoir by Christopher Skaife, Yeoman Warder of Her Majesty’s Royal Palace and Fortress The Tower of London, details Skaife’s day-to-day life with the ravens of the Tower. The best thing about The Ravenmaster: My Life with the Ravens at the Tower of London is that it makes you want to read more. 5/9/2023 0 Comments Moonstruck by Onley JamesBy night, hes an unrepentant killer, one of seven psychopaths raised to right the wrongs of a justice system that keeps failing.Noah Holt has spent years dreaming of vengeance for the death.
